How Long to Become an Uber Driver

Table of contents:

Complete an Application Online

One of the basic uber driver requirements is to fill out an online application. Before you begin your application you need to be sure you fit the criteria for getting the job. Uber requires its drivers to be at least 21 years old and have at least one year of legal driving experience. Uber will do an extensive background check, so you must be able to pass a criminal records check and a driving records check to be hired. You must also have a four-door or more car that is no older than ten years. If you think you are ready to apply, then start by making a profile on Uber.

You will need to take a clear picture of your driver’s licenses, your insurance card, and your car registration, and upload these documents along with other needed application information, to the secure Uber website. This process should take thirty minutes or less to complete. Next, Uber will check your documents for compliance to let you know if they need more updated information or if you are ready to move forward in the process.

Get Your Car Inspected

All applicants must complete an intensive vehicle inspection before they can begin driving for Uber. The inspection process will make sure the vehicle that is being driven meets all the safety standards and is clean and in good condition. These inspections can be completed at an Uber activation center or an auto repair center that is approved by all parties. Before getting your inspection make sure your car insurance is up to date and that you have the most insurance for the price. Look for the best cheap car insurance to make sure you are getting the best price for the most service.

Pass The Background Check

With a background check, Uber will be looking at specific things to see if you qualify as a driver. Your driving record cannot have any major violations, including DUI, reckless driving, or traffic accidents in the past seven years and cannot have more than three violations within the last three years. Uber does not allow anyone to work for them if they have had a criminal conviction that is violent in nature, any sexual crime, drug-related offenses or other felony charges within the last seven years.

The application process can take anywhere from two days to two weeks, depending on how long the background check takes to come back. Once you have uploaded all required documents, passed the background check, and got your car inspected then you are almost ready to start driving. You need to download the Uber Partner’s App from the Uber Partner website. There is also a video presentation on the Uber Partner website that will teach you how to use the app and what to expect when you start working. This app will give you the needed access that you will need to start driving. Uber has a support center that you can contact with any questions that may arise.
