Realizing What You've Left Behind
One of the most alarming feelings in the world is getting out of an Uber and realizing that you've forgotten something. You frantically search around, pat your pockets, or ask your friends if they've seen whatever you may be missing, only to realize that it's nowhere to be found. It happens more often than you think. People frequently leave their keys, wallet, purse, mobile phone, and more inside of the Uber. Luckily, there are options to take if you're someone who has to tell your friends "I've left my phone or forgot something inside the car."
Contact Your Uber Driver
Your night is not ruined if you reach your destination and realize you forgot something like your mobile phone, wallet, keys, or purse. All you have to do is contact the driver of the Uber car that you took to get to your destination. To do this, long onto the app. If you forgot your phone in the Uber cab, you'll have to borrow one from a friend or use a computer if there's one that's easily accessible. Once logged into the app, you'll be able to click a section that says 'contact driver about a lost item.' In that section, you'll be able to tell them things like "I left my phone or my bag in your car." It's important you do this right away so the driver knows to look and set your item aside.
While in the app, you'll also want to leave a contact number where you can be reached. Uber will put you in contact with your driver who will coordinate a return. A person will be charged a $15 fee once a driver is able to return the lost item. It can be frustrating to wait, but the driver of an Uber car is a real person who has a real life. It's not always easy for them to come immediately to return your belongings.
How to Be a Good Lyft Drive
If you drive for Uber or Lyft, it can be frustrating to have to turn around and drop a lost item off to someone. This is especially true if they are out of your way. You just have to remind yourself that mistakes happen, getting them their item will mean a lot to them, and you will be compensated through Uber or Lyft for your time and effort. Most passengers are understanding and will even coordinate a time with you and make an effort to meet you somewhere so that you don't have to drive far.
What to Do if Driver Unavailable
If you are unable to get a hold of your driver, be patient. They may be driving an unable to answer. Give them 24-hours to respond. If you've tried everything possible or if your driver tells you they don't have your belongings, it's time to contact the company itself. You'll have to sign into your account and contact Uber. Tell them exactly what happened and be as detailed as possible. You'll need to give a description of the item, who your driver was, when you lost the item, and where in the car you think it may be. Uber will then get involved and do the best they can to get to the bottom of where your lost item may be.
Steps to Take to Prevent Losing Things
Unfortunately, things get lost in rideshare vehicles quite a bit. Sometimes, when you leave something in an Uber cab, a passenger that comes in after you may snatch it up. This is why it's crucial that you keep track of your belongings. When you get in an Uber, remind yourself that I want to put my belongings in my bag so I don't lose them. Things like credit cards and keys are notorious for slipping through the cracks.
